Profile and content metrics

Overview Metrics Breakdown

1. Posts

  • Definition: Number of posts published during the reporting period.

  • Insight: An increase in this number shows higher content activity, which can impact visibility and engagement.

2. Content Views/Impressions

  • Definition: Total number of times your posts were seen, with the date of the impression being the same as the date of the post publish. This is also referred to as “Reach”, colloquially.

  • Insight: Measures overall reach of posts. A drop may signal lower-performing content or reduced LinkedIn visibility.

3. Shares

  • Definition: How many times your posts were shared by others.

  • Insight: A strong indicator of content virality and value. A decrease suggests lower shareability or resonance.

4. Engagement Rate

  • Definition: (Total engagements, including reactions and shares ÷ Content views) × 100.

  • Insight: Measures quality of interaction relative to visibility. A high rate means your content resonates, even if views are down.

5. Comments Received

  • Definition: Number of comments your posts received.

  • Insight: Reflects how discussion-worthy your content is. A dip may suggest less controversial or engaging topics.

6. Likes/Reactions Received

  • Definition: Total number of reactions across your posts.

  • Insight: A measure of surface-level engagement. Still useful as a signal of content approval or relatability.

7. Comments Left

  • Definition: Number of comments you made (wrote) on posts, both your own and those of other users.

  • Insight: A key part of outbound engagement. Higher numbers tend to correlate with increased visibility, community engagement, and reciprocity.

8. Likes Left

  • Definition: Number of reactions (like, celebrate, support, etc) you gave to others’ posts.

  • Insight: Tracks how active and supportive you are in your network. An increase here can suggest increased feed presence.

9. New Followers

  • Definition: Number of people who followed your profile in the reporting period.

  • Insight: Indicates growing influence. More followers mean larger organic reach potential.

10. New Connections

  • Definition: Number of new LinkedIn connections made, whether through outbound or inbound connection requests.

  • Insight: Directly impacts your feed quality and network size, which in turn affects engagement opportunities. New connections are more likely to see your content.

11. Messages

  • Definition: Number of unique people you exchanged LinkedIn DMs with, excluding Inmails.

  • Insight: Useful for tracking the relationship-building side of your activity. A slight decrease might reflect less direct outreach.
